Active labour market policy plays an important role in Germany. In an interview to the IAB-Forum magazine, IAB Director Joachim Möller discusses its underlying principles such as the idea of “demanding and supporting” (Fordern und Fördern). He emphasizes the fact that evaluation results tend to have a significant impact on the design of labour market policies. In particular, he argues that many labour market programmes are effective for some groups, but not necessarily for others.

This video is the fifth interview of a series of interviews with Joachim Möller that address selected aspects of the labour market in Germany (the German job miracle; the German minimum wage; refugees and migration; the dual apprenticeship system; active labour market policy; and the digital revolution).

The interview was conducted by Hannah Ormerod.
